JOB SUMMARY:
Caregivers provide personal services which meet the existing needs and/or preferences of each client as outlined in each client's service plan. Personal services are attendant care services, homemaker services and companion services. These services allow ABS's clients to maintain their independence, choice, dignity, privacy and individuality while remaining at home. Personal Services include, but are not limited to, assisting with or performing household tasks, transporting a client, escorting a client to appointments, shopping, meal planning and other related services. Caregivers work one-on-one with our clients in their own homes to provide these services and both part-time and ful l-time positions are available.
Job Responsibilities / Essential Tasks:
- Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Creates, maintains and promotes a positive atmosphere
- Observe clients carefully, noting and reporting any changes in condition or any other important information to supervisor.
- Follow established policies and procedures of agency.
- Perform housekeeping and laundry procedures as assigned.
- Follow all cleaning and laundry procedures and instructions in the use of housekeeping and laundry equipment and products.
- Perform meal preparation procedures as assigned.
- Provide quality care for all clients per AGENCY Standards.
- Encourage client to be active and participate in activities of choice and ADLâs.
- Maintain a safe environment at all times, keeping hallways and walking areas free of clutter and keeping home lights on as needed for client safety as client allows
- Assist in making clientâs beds, mopping floors, cleaning toilets and showers, serving meals, laundering clothes, cleaning service areas and performing other tasks as directed.
- Attend staff meetings as requested.
- Reports all observations/changes of a clientâs condition to a nurse as soon as practical.
- Instills confidence in the client by performing duties in a competent and caring manner.
- Maintains confidentiality of all clientâs and company information.
- Must turn in time in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Must stay current on all testing and requirements related to the companyâs licensing.
- Performs assigned tasks in accordance with acceptable standards of practice as defined by state regulations.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned.
Specific Requirements:
- Prefer knowledge of the aging process.
- Ability to work with the elderly to maximize clientâs independence, dignity, pr ivacy, choice, individuality and a home-like environment.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
- Having dependable transportation to get to each clientâs home.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all clientâs care information and any other personal information about the client.
- Ability to deal tactfully, show patience, maintain a cheerful disposition, show enthusiasm with clients, family members, visitors, outside agencies, other employees, etc., and demonstrate a willingness to handle difficult individuals, situations, etc.
- Exhibit understanding and supportiveness of the mission, goals and customer service philosophy of this facility.
- Ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other staff.
- Ability to report problems that arise in a prompt and professional manner.
- Ability to work with clients, guests and the public in a thoughtful, diplom atic and tactful manner.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Must use safe work practices by following policies and procedures.
- Must maintain a neat appearance and follow the companyâs dress code.
- Must have patience, tact and a positive attitude, as well as the willingness to handle difficult clients /families.
Experience:
- Previous experience working with the elderly is preferred.
- Knowledge of the aging process is strongly desired
- Experience working with clients with Alzheimer's is a plus.
- Have a passion for a high-level of service
Education:
- Must possess, as a minimum, a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Certification as a CNA is preferred.
- Preference given to those with some college work completed
