Compensation: The full salary range for this position is $106,000 - $160,335 annually. There are two types of experience being considered for this role: Experience that is directly relevant to the role and Total Working Experience, in all fields. This includes: internships and consulting work. In collaboration with the hiring manager, the People and Culture team calculates experience based on the candidate’s most current resume. When calculating the offer, consideration is given to candidates that possess additional qualifications (i.e., desired qualifications). Teaching Lab will generally cap salaries for new employees at 105% of the midpoint to allow for continued growth in the role over time.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Director, Content Design & Operations helps set Teaching Lab programmatic goals related to effective and user-friendly online instructional content design, creates the systems and processes for meeting the goals, and leads the implementation of these systems and processes to meet the programmatic goals. They are responsible for implementing evidence-based instructional design principles and serving as an expert in online/in-person instructional design. Their role will include creating high-quality, research-based, user-centered online professional learning content, services, and tools for K-12 educators within an LMS, and ensuring timely and consistently excellent support to school system partners and internal projects. Additional responsibilities include enhancing staff knowledge and capacity in instructional content design, as well as managing and supporting staff in the development of professional learning courses.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- Design high-quality, research based, user-centered online professional learning content, services, and tools/resources
- Collaborating with other team members, create materials and content for online, virtual (including synchronous and asynchronous) and in-person programmatic partnerships and courses, in consultation with content experts
- Engage in Teaching Lab’s user-centered design processes (engaging with Teacher Advisory Board, supporting pilot partnerships, developing rapid prototypes) and use learning and insights to inform design
- Create and manage Teaching Lab’s design process to develop content, including drafting, feedback cycles, pilot partnerships (as applicable), and finalization steps (e.g., get expert review and adhere to Teaching Lab’s style and branding guidelines when developing new content)
- Review courses during the design, development and delivery phases for sound pedagogical and instructional design practices
- Help incorporate innovative methods of content delivery in the online, hybrid, web-enhanced, and face-to-face environments using appropriate technologies.
- Analyze and evaluate new instructional tools and technologies, and recommend appropriate tools and approaches to improve course design and delivery.
- Apply best practices for virtual and in-person adult learning in the design of professional learning content
- Comply with Universal Design Standards to ensure accessibility and equity of access to online courses/material and ensure that online educational resources are accessible, updated and functioning properly
- Support on ensuring online courses are functional in Teaching Lab’s learning management systems and in partner learning management systems.
Implement excellent online programmatic services- Manage online and virtual programmatic projects and manage team members to successfully meet the goals of the projects
- Acts as an online instructional design content area expert for the team, aligned with organizational needs, i.e., has some other area of content expertise as well (like subject-area expertise in ELA, math, science, or social studies curriculum and/or instructional expertise, or general expertise in coaching for continuous improvement or state/system level leadership development, etc.)
Engage in efficient and effective project management- Implement and support other team members to implement the project plans for assigned projects; if needed, identify needs for consultant support to complete projects on time and with high quality; supervise consultants
- Maintain partner project plans that track the execution of services related to scopes of work, and support other team members to maintain individual partner project plans for each project
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, time management, and workflow management while attending to the diverse needs of partners and keeping a radically responsive orientation
- Develop systems, tools, and processes to support effective and efficient implementation of services to scale Teaching Lab’s partnerships and impact over timeAs needed, maintain contracts and invoices for relevant partners; collaborate with other team members and the Senior Director, Finance to ensure accurate invoices are sent and billed
Support, train and collaborate with team members of the organization in online instructional design- Provide appropriate online instructional design training for team members aligned with organizational needs
- Collaborate with the Operations team (including IT), and learning and research to ensure they have the skills and capacity to engage in effective online instructional design
- Collaborate with Senior Directors, Program, Directors, Program and Managers, Program to continuously refine and develop high-quality online professional learning content and implement online professional learning
- Work with Teaching Lab team members to identify and engage new and existing school system partners on scopes of work that drive towards impact and outcomes for teachers and students
Engage in continuous learning- Stay abreast of key research and guidance in the field, attend learning experiences to build skills and competencies in project management, client management, coaching, and adult facilitation
- Engage in personal and organized learning opportunities as a team member at an organization which champions racial equity and centers anti-racism

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree
- Familiarity with instructional design (ID) models like ADDIE or similar ID models
- Experience designing high-impact online professional learning for educators
- Three or more years combined experience directing projects and leading teams
- Experience creating the strategy for a team or business function
- Experience with the Canvas Learning Management System (or similar LMS), knowledge of universal design and creation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant online courses, as well as proficiency with multimedia authoring tools
- Track record of effective people management aligned to equity values
- Experience setting goals, creating the systems and processes for meeting the goals for educational programming
- Five or more years combined experience working in PK-12 education, with minimum of two years experience teaching PK-12 students from traditionally underserved backgrounds with demonstrated evidence of impact
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Instructional Design & Technology, or relevant field
- Certification(s) in Instructional Design, Design Thinking, Training & Evaluation, or Adult Learning
