Halcyon Rehabilitation is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist in Tampa, FL.
We have a 245 bed SNF with a very large rehab gym, with plans to expanse in the near future.
Our gym is equipped with ACP program for modalities. We have "The Works" (omnicycles, all modalities, ultrasound, e-stim, diathermy and vital stim. Plus, lots of fun programs too; like Wii fine motor table games and mini-basketball game, etc.

SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
JOB DESCRIPTION
BASIC FUNCTION
The staff Speech-Language Pathologist evaluates and treats patients/residents, communicates with families, physicians, and other health team members and maintains documentation of services in the medical record. Conducts in-services and training for facility staff on an ongoing basis in restorative techniques.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.
Evaluate patients/residents based upon the physician referral.
2.
Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval for services from referring physician.
3.
Supervise Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants and Rehab Aides in direct patient/resident care and patient/resident related activities per state practice act.
4.
Treat patients/residents according to a treatment plan.
5.
Screen patients/residents based upon identified need.
6.
Communicate with supervisor and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems and plans.
7.
Participate in Interdisciplinary Team Meetings, patient/resident care conferences, utilization review meetings, and other meetings as required or directed.
8.
Participate in in-service training program for other staff in the facility.
9.
Record clinical documentation according to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines.
10.
Record daily treatment charges per approved billing guidelines.
11.
Instruct families and nursing staff in restorative/home program.
12.
Participate in discharge planning.
13.
Secure necessary durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment for patients/residents.
14.
Report any problems with department equipment to the appropriate personnel so that it is maintained in good working order.
15.
Acts as a clinical preceptor for affiliating Speech-Language Pathologist or Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant schools with approved contracts.
16.
Coordinates with members of other departments, attending physicians, committee members, and other staff within the Rehab department.
17.
Performs other duties as required or directed.
EXPOSURE RISK
The Speech-Language Pathologist is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Reports to the Director of Rehabilitation Services or Designee for both administrative and patient/resident care responsibilities.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants, Rehab Aides, and therapy students.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1.
Works in well-lighted/ventilated office and therapy areas.
2.
Sitting, standing, bending, lifting and moving intermittently during working hours.
3.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
4.
Involved with patients/residents, family members, personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
5.
Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients/residents, family members, etc.
6.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.
7.
Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
8.
Must be constantly alert for patientâs/residentâs safety.
9.
Attend and participate in continuing educational programs. May require overnight travel.
10.
Subject to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, odors, etc., throughout the workday.
11.
Subject to lifting, carrying and supporting patients/residents.
12.
Licensed and able to travel between facilities as indicated.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited college or university with a masters degree in Speech- Language Pathology.
EXPERIENCE
Two years experience as a Therapist is preferred.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
1.
Valid Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) or actively accumulating the supervised experience required for certification (CFY).
2.
Current registration/licensure as an Speech-Language Pathologist.
3.
Interest in subacute care, geriatric rehabilitation and general rehabilitation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1.
Must be able to move (walk, stoop, bend, stand, sit, push, pull, lift) intermittently throughout the workday.
2.
Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
3.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
4.
Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
5.
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients/residents, personnel, and support agencies.
6.
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
7.
Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
8.
Must be able to lift patients/residents, medical equipment, supplies, etc.
