Signature HealthCARE of Port Charlotte is seeking an experienced Long Term Care Registered Nurse Staff Development Coordinator to work at our high acuity/high volume, 164 bed facility, which has a 60 bed Transitional Care Unit. Our facility specializes in acute care services and rehab to home.

Position is full-time & comes with a full benefits package.

SHC of Port Charlotte is currently developing CHF/COPD true pathway, cardiac program w/ physician panel, AC/LS certification, IV push interventions. Port Charlotte regularly admits high acuity patients including trachs, chest tubes, cardiac life vests, percussion vests, and halos. Port Charlotte is currently an orthopedic center of excellence w/ new 5000 sq. ft. therapy gym. The facility has expansive outpatient services that wellness visits, infusion therapy, and diabetic, bariatric, renal outpatient management.

Port Charlotte is located in a small waterfront community on the west coast of Florida accessible to Fort Myers, Tampa, and Orlando. Port Charlotte has an established team of department heads and a strong reputation within its community. The facility produces in excess of 15 million in revenues yearly and received a Gold Survey last year. The facility is currently undergoing renovation and construction to capitalize on the Signature’s Post- Acute Business model.

Summary:Staff Development Coordinator (RN)

Develop and implement job skills training, in-service education as required by regulations and employee health monitoring for the nursing department employees.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work cooperatively with the Administrator, Human Resources and Director of Nursing in assessing educational needs and plan programs to meet these needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor certification and licensure status and renewals.
  • Administer TB and Hepatitis B vaccines, as requested.
  • Obtain, develop and maintain files regarding all programs presented to facility employees.
  • Maintain a current schedule of all students and outside instructors who may be in the facility doing clinical training.
  • Ensure all employees complete hours of required training during the required time period.
  • Assist Human Resources with the new hire On-Boarding program.
  • Conduct competency skills review on hire and annually for all nursing personnel.
  • Provide skill training to new staff in any deficient area noted above before allowing the nursing assistant to perform the task with a resident.
  • Coordinate and track all in-services regarding mandatory topics.
  • Evaluate in-services training to develop programs that enhance resident care skills.
  • Regularly check the competency of C.N.A. skill performance, positive regard for residents, and developmental needs of direct care staff. Provide 1:1 instruction immediately, if necessary.
  • Participate in hiring process as screener/interviewer for all nursing department personnel, as requested.
  • Participate in QA meetings to identify training needs.
  • Collaborate with all disciplines to develop/present educational programs, as needed.
  • Other special projects and duties, as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse with required current state licensure.
  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience in a health care setting; long-term care setting preferred.
  • Must have a current/active CPR certification.
  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Highest level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of organization and work well within a team environment in support of company objectives.
  • Customer service oriented with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize, coordinate and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with high level of quality and productivity.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, take initiative and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to deal with new tasks without the benefit of written procedures.
  • Approachable, flexible and adaptable to change.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
  • Moderate physical activity:
o Push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of twenty (20) pounds to a minimum height of three (3) feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of fifty (50) feet.

o Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

o Bending and/or stooping for more than one (1) hour at a time.

  • Function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and vendors.
