Sr. Manager, Core Infrastructure Ops [Romania]


 

Your day to day:

This role reports directly to the Head of Cloud & Infrastructure service line being a key enabler for the success of Vodafone Cloud & Infrastructure function, leading a business line of 150-240 employees distributed within different departments as well as external resources. Role has under supervision managers of managers leading departments of highly specialized engineers focused on emerging technologies and IT infrastructure enterprise products.

The Core Infrastructure Operations unit will focus on maintaining the worldwide core infrastructure estate of Vodafone ( storage, compute, virtualization, storage, etc.) as well as contributing to delivery of new IT platforms and products (e.g. private cloud) in accordance with infrastructure lifecycle phases.

The role is accountable for defining and implementing the department's strategy and operational model along with department continuous development and reorganization, all these in-line with the technology advancements and business needs.

Responsible for the operational performance of the services delivered by Core & infrastructure business line to our customers.

STRATEGY
  • Create the department’s delivery model and implement it in an agile way, adapting it continously to the new framework and technology advancements.
  • Create a cross geography operating model & delivery model for his/her delivery area.
  • Connect with his/her peers from other locations and design a location strategy for the delivery unit
  • Ensure agile methodology is used across the teams whenever is applicable.
  • Plan, coordinate and enable department's transformation to software defined infrastructure.

OPERATIONAL
  • Ensure services are delivered as per the agreed parameters across world-wide Vodafone infrastructure estate in his/her area.
  • Drive business line transformation towards VCI goals to decrease the footprint of traditional infrastructure and convert the workforce to Mode two operating model
  • Engaged into management war rooms during crisys (critical incidents) as secified into the On Duty Manager procedure.
  • Liaise with the customers and propose new infrastructure related products (e.g. private cloud, network function virtualization, etc.), in-line with business needs.
  • Drive and be accountable for delivering against established business goals.
  • Provide directions (high level coordination) for the operational and project based activities within the department.
  • Initiate together with the customers regular reviews of the asset portfolio under support (servers, storages, databases, network devices, cloud solutions, products, etc.) and propose technology refresh initiatives in-line with the technology evolution.
  • Responsible for keeping the delivery teams working on the highest priority tasks, removing risks and impediments, maintain on track financials and leading the communication with the stakeholders.

PROJECTS AND STRATEGIC PROGRAMMES
  • Co-ordinate, enable and maintain progress of program initiatives within IT infrastructure area of Vodafone Group Technology where his/her department is engaged.
  • Oversee multiple projects in which the department is involved, ensuring these are delivered in time, within the agreed cost and quality.

BUDGET FORECAST & EXECUTION
  • Plan, execute and regularly reforecast the budget in ownership (technology and people related cost). Reprioritizing the budget and resources based on the goals.
  • Identify opportunities and initiate programs meant to decrease the operational costs.
  • Ensure the year over year efficiency target is achieved through automation, technology optimization, business transformation or other efficiencies levers.

STAKEHOLDERS MANAGEMENT
  • Stakeholder management according to the seniority level in order to manage the scope of engagement and make adjustments to it whenever is needed.
  • Maintain the governance model at the department's level through regular service reviews with customers.
  • Participate in cross-centers initiatives for improvement.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
  • Direct management of people managers which have under their coordination teams of engineers.
  • Create development plans for the direct reports.
  • Perform regular reviews of performance and ensure that annual salary reviews are applied within the department following company guidelines using fairness principles.
  • Ensure there is a clear training plan for the entire department and trainings are available and relevant according to the career path.
  • Ensure that transition of new services is done in time and with the right resources. Accountable for people on-boarding, knowledge acquisition and for the compliance of the go live dates

With these skills you are a great candidate:

  • Technical understanding of IT & Network Infrastructure domains both at hardware and software level (at least three of these areas): operating systems, virtualization, containerization, public and private cloud, database, network, software defined infrastructure, storage, programming languages.
  • Hands on experience with at least two of the following: Public and Private Cloud solutions, Enterprise Database, UNIX or LINUX OS, virtualization, Enterprise Storages, RPA and Automation solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving multinational projects within IT & Network Infrastructure domain.
  • Proven track record of optimizing delivery - experienced in initiating and coordinating cross departmental/ country efficiency programs and quality improvement.
  • Deep understanding of solution lifecycles, from business requirements to deployment and operations
  • Experience in managing large teams/departments and managing people managers
  • Well-developed coordination & leadership skills.
  • Stakeholder management.
  • Ability to work in an international organization with a matrix structure.
  • Previous experience on Project & Transition management with methodologies defined in line with PMI.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to motivate and inspire others, able to deal with customers and employees.
  • International experience and background in a complex business environment essential as well as ability to work across distributed team in a complex business environment.
  • Budget management and financial acumen.
  • Education: University degree in computer science, telecommunications or equivalent
  • Oracle Certified Professional or other database related certifications (e.g. MS)
  • Enterprise Storage certifications will be a plus
  • RHCSA (RedHat Certified System Administrator), VCP (VMWare Cloud Professional) preferred or equivalent trainings
  • CEH (Certified Ethical Hacking) will be a plus
  • ITIL Foundation Certified (service operations nice to have)
  • AGILE PM Practitioner Certified (or other similar certifications)
  • Lean Six Sigma –green belt preferred
  • Solid Financial understanding
