Provides BLS, ALS, or critical care for inter-facility transport for specialty care utilizing protocols and procedures set forth by Lifeguardâs Medical Director, and federal & FAA guidel! ines within scope of practice.
Works in collaboration! with flight team members, including paramedic, nurse, Medical Director, pilots, and flight coordinators.
Assesses for and detects changes in the status of patients and manages proper treatment in a proactive approach to solving patient and/or family issues and concerns.
Operates emergency and non emergency medical machinery, equipment and/or technology, such as mechanical ventilation machines, oxygen tanks, and various other life support equipment.
Maintains the patients overall safety while in flight.
Maintains complete and accurate patient care documentation.
Assists in carrying patient(s) by stretcher or other device into (or out of) the aircraft and secures patient inside the aircraft.
Communicates information to the Lifeguard Medical Director, other members of the healthcare profession, patients, family members, and other flight crew as necessary and appropriate.
Stays current with leading industry practic! es/knowledge base.
Maintains all required licenses and certifications by attending courses provided by local operation and medical community to obtain CEU's and CEC's.
Provides supervisor with documentation of current certifications and training documentation information for training file.
Maintains a safe and healthy workplace per the standards set forth by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), FAA, and Lifeguard Air Ambulance.
Attends all required staff meetings.
Remains aware of all policy changes and informational emails & postings throughout the operation and by engaging with leadership staff.
Maintains privacy of patient and employee information at all times.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Acts an intermediary and communicator between the flight crew and flight medical team members.
Plans, organizes, and positions equipment and supplies for use before, during and a! fter transport.
Inspects, safely operates, and maintains all e! quipment, supplies, and tools to meet standards set by Lifeguard Air Ambulance. Requisitions and restocks supplies, material, and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of standards of care within scope of practice.
Thorough knowledge of equipment and supplies used in patient care and transport.
Considerable knowledge of medical procedures and techniques.
Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and to type with accuracy.
Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining the appropriate standards of care of a patient according to existing protocols.
Knowledge of universal precautions.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelorâs degree preferred.
Minimum three (3) years experience in Critical care experience (ICU/ER).
Experienced in intubation and airway.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or ! CERTIFICATIONS
Current RN License
Flight Nurse Certification (CFRN) preferred
Current CPR certification.
ACLS certification required.
BTLS, PHTLS, or ITLS required. TNCC preferred .
PEPP, PALS, or other equivalent pediatric course.
Current passport or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS & DIRECTION/GUIDANCE
Will work in collaboration with flight medical team partner (e.g., Paramedic, Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Physician) during transport. Reports to Medical Flight Team Coordinator and the Lifeguard Air Medical Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
This position requires working in the confined space of an aircraft, involving frequent sitting, bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and working in awkward positions, as well as moderate standing and climbing, when moving patients from all types of locations and within the aircraft and emergency vehicles. It requires frequent lifting of up to 100 lbs. This position will be required to perform various lifts and transfers of patients and equipment including stretcher, monitor, jump bag, ventilator, and possibly a two person manual transfer. This position will require partnering with another EMT or RN to lift, carry, push, pull, maneuver, balance and transfer from one surface to another a body weight of up to 300lbs, and additional equipment weight. This position requires manual dexterity of frequent simple and po! wer grasping of both hands, moderate use of fine manipulation with both hands, and frequent pushing and pulling and reaching above and below shoulder level.
Requires ability to identify and distinguish colors, clear vision at 20 inches or less (close vision) and clear vision at 20 feet or more (distant vision), peripheral and depth vision, as well as ability to adjust focus.
COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS:
Must be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action for treatment and transportation of patients, and interaction with family members, facility personnel, and others. Must be able to handle novel and diverse work situations and function within a two-three person team dynamic. Personal maturity and sound judgment are critical. Must be able to relate, communicate and interact with people at all levels within the Company and at customer facilities in foreign and domestic locations, as well as with people of diverse backgrou! nds, age levels ranging from infant to senior, disparate levels of comp! rehension, and potentially dealing with confused and agitated patients or family members. Requires ability to analyze, evaluate, compare, and compile information, and the ability to coordinate, communicate, and instruct.
TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires working within the small and often compressed atmosphere of a fixed wing aircraft. Performance of the duties of this job requires the use of stretchers, ventilators and other medical equipment; walking on uneven or slippery ground depending on the location in which the transport occurs; exposure to red lights and sirens on ambulance; exposure to various weather conditions; day and evening shifts; potential exposure to dust, gas, fumes or chemicals (e.g. aircraft and ambulances); occasionally working near moving mechanical parts; working at heights and in confined spaces; and potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens, known and unknown medical conditions (protective materials are prov! ided and precautions are required). The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and at a moderate level when in the hospital environment.
