KEY REQUIREMENTS

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
Must pass pre-employment examination.

Must be proficient in written and spoken English DUTIES:
PA is assigned to Pain Clinic Section of the Anesthesiology Service. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Pain Medicine. Functions as an agent of the Pain Medicine physicians engaged in the clinical care of pain medicine patients. Assists in the planning and implementation of medical programs which are directly related to accreditation. Participates in continuing performance improvement (PI). Collaborates and coordinates various services in the delivery of health care in outpatient setting. Perfo! rms initial and pre-procedural histories and physical examinations for ! interventional pain procedures. Orders diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, imaging procedures and electrocardiograms. Carries out health promotion and disease prevention activities. Initiates requests for consultations. Provides counseling and education for families and patients in treatment plans, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatments and drugs. Trains new staff and providers on VISTA, CPRS, Imaging and Imed Consent.
The selected candidate will work Monday - Friday, from 7:45 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Citizen of the United States English Language Proficiency. PAs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (This requireme! nt does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of March 12, 1993.) Education/Training. The candidate must meet one of the following:
A bachelor's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or
Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or
Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is primarily sedentary but! also requires some standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of light items.
