  • The Division Director of Medication Safety is responsible for medication
  • safety and quality activities at all HCA facilities within the division to include but not limited to: standardization of

    medication management practices, ensure regulatory compliance, implementing national quality agenda related to

    medication management, development of medication safety programs, staff development/education. Provides support

    for all medication management and quality initiatives at facilities, centralized order entry center and consolidated

    pharmacy.

    DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
    ï‚·

    Develops and manages the division Medication Safety Improvement Plan

    ï‚·

    Works with multidisciplinary groups at the corporate, division and facility level to ensure key quality initiatives are

    in alignment with organizational priorities

    ï‚·

    Develops an! nual pharmacy quality business plan in conjunction with corpor! ate clinical services group, division

    leadership and clinical pharmacy group to ensure adequate budgetary support for medication safety programs

    ï‚·

    Serves as an internal consultant on medication/patient safety and quality standards related to medication

    management (ie. TJC, CMS, NQSF, IHI and FDA standards)

    ï‚·

    Identifies and facilitates medication safety improvement projects. Ensures that ongoing operational improvements

    reflect medication safety best practices and/or address actual and potential system vulnerabilities.

    ï‚·

    Manages data reporting and information related to medication safety, including medication events and ADRs.

    Reviews and trends reported medication occurrences to identify and resolve potential system vulnerabilities.

    ï‚·

    Provides supporting documentation, “white papers” or other information as needed facilitate implementation of

    medic! ation safety/medication use best practices

    ï‚·

    Manages the division Pharmacy Performance Improvement Plan (Quality KPI). Ensures ongoing measurement and

    improvement of operations.

    ï‚·

    Ensures appropriate and safe use of pharmacy technology including IV pumps, Order Entry Systems and Pharmacy

    Automation

    ï‚·

    Maintains effective communication with facility directors and leadership teams on quality initiatives

    ï‚·

    Assists in preparation and implementation of facility and COE policy and procedures as needed

    ï‚·

    Participates in education, research and other professional activities including precepting pharmacy students and/or

    residents

    ï‚·

    Develops and maintains electronic medication safety/quality site on company network

    ï‚·

    Manages division-wide pharmacy staff development/competency, training, and continuing education processes! in

    collaboration with the Division Director of Clinical Pharm! acy Services

    ï‚·

    Completes quarterly medication safety newsletter

    ï‚·

    Contributes to a culture of safety. Models optimal behavior and encourages others to participate in safety initiatives

    ï‚·

    Oversees Division Medication Safety Subcommittee

    ï‚·

    Attends meetings and participates in committees including facility medication safety and quality meetings, Division

    Quality Director and CNO Council Meetings, HCA Corporate Quality Clinical Advisory, and others as required.

    ï‚·

    Other duties as defined by DDOP

    ï‚·

    PC Skills â€" proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and other required operating systems such as

    CPCS, Order Scanning Sys! tems, Automated Dispensing Units, Packaging Equipment, Physician Order ! Entry, and

    Clinical Integration to systems. Meditech experience preferred

    ï‚·

    Financial management â€" applies tools and processes to successfully manage drug cost budget. Able to direct costeffective

    drug therapy via clinical protocols.

    ï‚·

    Project management â€" Able to assess work activities and allocate resources appropriately. Able to work

    independently and handle stress appropriately.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

    ï‚·

    Pharm.D. or Master’s Degree required

    ï‚·

    Residency Training or BCPS certification preferred

    EXPERIENCE

    ï‚·

    3-5 years experience as a clinician

    ï‚·

    Previous patient safety work and pharmaceutical service redesign minimum

    ï‚·

    Clinical pharmacy support and managerial experience preferred

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    ï‚·

    Experience in Project Management and Patien! t Safety Initiatives desirable

    ï‚·

    Presentation, research and publishing experience desirable

    ï‚·

    CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

    • Licensed pharmacist
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Work will be performed in an office environment. Minimal
    time in pharmacy environment. Must be able to stoop, kneel, and reach. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual

    dexterity sufficient to operate a telephone, keyboard, calculator, other office equipment, packaging equipment and IV

    equipment if needed. Work is often performed under stressful situations. Must have ability to verbally communicate.

    Some travel required. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Staff must remain flexible and available to

    provide staffing assistance for any/all disaster or emergency situations.
