AHF is currently seeking a full time Medical Assistant for the Broward Wellness Center. The hours are Monday and Friday 10 am to 7 pm and Tuesday-Thursday 12 pm to 9 pm. We offer a competitive salary, amazing benefits, and a great work environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Documents patient's weight, temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure per AHF protocol.
Collects samples such as urine, blood and stool specimens in the Healthcare Centers and/or Prevention and Testing sites as ordered. Instructs patient! s on in home collection of urine, stool and sputum specimens, when appropriate.
Performs phlebotomy as ordered and prepares specimens for transport to laboratory.
Documents services performed for compliance and reporting purposes.
Reviews physician orders, lab requests or follow-up needs with patient.
May receive laboratory results over the telephone and transmit them to the licensed nurse and the patient's medical provider in a timely manner.
Administers Purified Protein Derivative (PPD), as ordered.
Reports changes in patient's physical status to the Nurse Manager, Prevention and Testing Program Manager, other nurses or medical provider.
Assists nursing and medical staff with examinations and procedures as assigned.
Documents observations as requested by an MD and/or Nurse Manager in the patient's medical record.
Receives and processes medication refill requests; verifies medication request with healthcare provider and obtains appropria! te documentation.
Maintains supplies and cleanliness of examination! rooms.
Maintains logs as directed by the Nurse Manager and Prevention and Testing Program Manager.
Maintains standard precautions for infection control.
Under the supervision of the Prevention and Testing Program Manager, the Medical Assistant is responsible for the daily functioning and administrative operations of the testing program.
Conducts an HIV/STD risk assessment with the client to obtain risk history and demographic information for reporting purposes.
Administers HIV test designed to detect HIV anti-bodies following standardized directions.
Processes sample in accordance with standard guidelines.
Assesses client referral needs and makes referrals as neeeded during the counselling sessions; document all referrals made.
Participation in AHF Meetings/Committees
Attends Testing Counselorâs Meeting.
Attends other Prevention meetings as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer/Software Skills & Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an employee should have knowledge of Word Processing Software.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups o! f customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills !
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills & Abilities/Qualifications
Previous experience with medical front office a plus.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate openly on sexual topics without prejudice.
Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program with cert! ification.
Current State of Florida HIV Pre and Post Test HIV Counselor Certification.
Current State of Florida Driver License.
