Department:! Vascular Access/PICC
Responsible To: Nurse Director and Coordinator
Education/Training: BSN preferred. In lieu of BSN, commitment to earn BSN within an established period of time may be required.
Experience: 1000 Hours of PICC experience preferred.
License/Certification: Valid State of Florida Nursing License. PICC Certification required within 6-months of hire. BLS required.
Physical Requirements: Good physical conditions to occasionally sit; frequently stand, walk bend/stoop, and squat; occasionally kneel, reach above shoulder level, and balance; ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull maximum over 50lbs with assistance; must continually be able to see, hear, speak and use both hands too easily communicate.
Environmental Condition: Primarily work inside (75% of time) and may experience the following hazard: biological, needles and sharps, radiation, stress, noise, vibr! ation, dust, fumes and occasional temperature extremes.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Insert PICC lines. Monitor ALL central lines for compliance, complications and early removal. Address ALL central line / IV complications (DVTS, Phlebitis, etc.) and implement appropriate care.
Assess limited access patients upon admission and recommend / implement appropriate vascular access needed / required.
Assist with difficult IV insertions (CT, Infusions, etc.)
Perform accurate and complete assessments on patients within established time frames; requests consult as indicated. Establishes and updates a patient plan of care based on periodic assessments.
Assists with providing for the physical comfort and safety of patients (i.e., bath, linen changes, feeding and toileting). Transcribes patient orders. Provides and doc! uments patient education based on assessed needs. Family is included in teaching as appropriate.
Administers medications.
Request/obtains charges for supplies and equipment.
Obtains and verifies all consent forms.
Supervises and gives assignments to the staff assigned to his/her patients.
Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patient served. Identifies and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patient and family.
Regularly evaluate patient’s level of pain using an approved pain scale, as evidenced by documentation on the medical record. Intervenes in a timely manner to alleviate patient’s pain and evaluate the effectiveness of relief efforts, as evidenced by documentation on the medical record. Educate patients and their families to pain management at Flagler Hospital as evidenced by documentation on the ! medical record.
Perform other work related duties as assigned.!
