About the Role
Newstalk is recruiting for a producer to join one of our flagship news and current affairs programmes, The Pat Kenny Show. We're looking for an experienced, creative and ambitious person to be part of a leadership team for a programme that sets the agenda while helping to grow the audience.
In this exciting and fast-paced role, you will:
- Produce live in the studio on a regular basis and develop a good working relationship with the presenter
- Generate and develop creative, original and new ideas for the programme
- Create original radio that gets the audience talking and won’t be heard anywhere else
- Edit and create imaginative audio pieces for the programme
- Break news stories and develop new angles and contributors on existing stories
- Secure on-air exclusives for the programme
- Direct researchers and reporters working with the programme, nurture and develop their talent
- Book guests and collate briefing material for presenters
- Contribute and help lead the editorial vision for the programme and forward plan accordingly
- Identify and deliver digital content opportunities
- Other duties as required
If the following traits sound like you, you might be the right person for the job:
- You have a minimum of two years experience producing a live radio programme
- You can spot and develop stories that get people talking
- You have a good knowledge of defamation law and CnaM Codes of Conduct
- You have a broad range of interests and follow news, politics, sport, business, celebrity news, social issues and everything in between
- You’re a self-starter who can identify, pitch and develop items for broadcast
- You are proficient in recording and editing and the workings of digital and social media
- You are driven by ambition to succeed
- Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure and to deadlines
- You are a team player as well as having an ability to lead
